Against online piracy China launches a new campaign

BEIJING: The government has launched a new campaign aimed rampant online piracy through increased oversight and coordination, according to a statement Wednesday from the four ministerial departments.

The four-month campaign will focus on the supervision of both content providers and online storage services and search engines and e-commerce platforms, according to a department.

The four departments are the National Intellectual Property Administration, Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Information Office of the Internet.


Local authorities are obliged to carry out special investigations and improve routine inspections on-line publications, the statement said.

The statement also proposes measures for monitoring e-commerce platforms in which service providers will be required to create specific rules for the protection of copyright and internal sanctions violations.

The Chinese government has been cracking down on intellectual property violations by launching frequent attacks of high profile campaigns.

In addition to government efforts, the country providers of Internet services have also been making greater efforts to protect intellectual property rights in order to achieve sustainable development and healthy.
