Continuous stir wants to Vokkaligas.

Vokkaligas seem DV Sadananda Gowda anxious to resign as prime minister. Annoyed by his dismissal, they want to take the matter to its logical conclusion to continue their protests.

This is not the first time Vokkaligas took to the streets, and are not the only social group stirred. Lingayats, Kurubas and Dalits have protested every time the leaders of their community were ignored or rejected by a party in power.

When the Janata Dal came to power in 1994, Vokkaligas protested when the appointment of HD Deve Gowda strong community for the post was delayed by former CM Ramakrishna Hegde and his men. Young people who broke into Vokkaliga Vidhana Soudha, even threw shoes Hegde, forcing him to speed up the election as party leader Gowda Janata Dal Legislature. Immediately after the 2004 elections, Kurubas around the state came to Bangalore and protested, demanding the prime minister Siddaramaiah.

This time, Vokkaliga leaders seem to be giving an ideological twist to their protests and agitation. "Though initially was against our agitation BJP leaders decided to eliminate Sadananda Gowda, now we want the prime minister to give a Dalit," said Nanjavadhootha Swamiji, who is leading the agitation.

A near total bandh was observed in Mandya on Wednesday in response to a call given by the Seva Vokkaliga Okkuta to protest the elimination of domestic violence Sadananda Gowda in the post of chief minister. All shops were closed, while banks, theaters and educational institutions declared a holiday. City services were canceled and bus protesters blocked traffic on Mysore Road, Bangalore for some time.
