Bangalore, June 27: Dengue fever is increasing in Karnataka this year with 559 cases reported from around the state.State Health Department Deputy Director (Malaria and Filaria) Dr. Channamalaiah said that while 405 cases of dengue were reported in 2011, this year until June 15 to 559 cases were reported.
The epidemic has claimed six lives with three deaths in Raichur, two in Kolar and Bangalore Urban District.
Dr. Channamalaiah said more than 120 cases of dengue were recorded in Chitradurga, followed by Bangalore and Davanagere Bruhut 72 each, Raichur 60. However, there are no reported cases of Gulbarga, Yadgiri and Kodagu.
He said to contain the spread of the epidemic and the fish were Gambisia Gappi in standing water. These fish kill mosquito larvae or adult mosquitoes and that spread dengue. In the first phase of March 1 to May 30 of DDT spraying was conducted in 177 primary health centers covering eight lakh people in 15 districts.
The second phase would be taken immediately.He said rapid response teams established at state, district and PHC were doing a job survelence visiting the affected areas, collecting blood samples from infected people, taking preventive measures and provide treatment to those affected.Responding to a question, said the spread of malaria has been reduced to 3,885 this year against 24,237 in 2011.
