HYDERABAD: up to 10 employees of a firm of agrochemicals were injured in a fire following an explosion at the plant in Srikakulam Andhra Pradesh morning, district Saturday, police said. Some workers are feared trapped in the plant.
Nagarjuna Agrichem limited fire following an explosion in the fifth block of the plant, which produces chemicals. The plant is located in Srikakulam district Chilkapalem north Andhra coast, about 700 km from here.
The injured were taken to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Srikakulam. About 200 employees reported to work at the plant at the time of the incident. The workers rushed in panic after the chemical reactor exploded. A dense black smoke enveloped the whole area including nearby towns and the road. Fire trucks rushed to the scene. The district administration has launched rescue and relief operations.
