CHENNAI: A public interest petition in writing, filed with the High Court of Madras seeking admission preference for Tamil students in the middle MBBS in the state, was dismissed as withdrawn.
The PIL, filed by advocate Kasinatha V Bharathi, argued that encouraging students to Tamil media in medical education will help improve service to physicians in rural areas. He said thousands of students of English as the medium are buying admission to medical colleges, Tamil students are unable to secure admission, even if they score 95 percent of the two brands.
He argued that if the Tamil medium schools are given preference in admission MBBS, would not hesitate to work in rural areas.
The lawyer said a complaint from him to various authorities had not raised any response. He wanted the court to direct the authorities to consider the representation and take appropriate orders providing preferential admission of students in the courses MBBS half Tamil.
When the matter was brought to be heard by the first bench comprising Justice TS MY Eqbal and Justice Sivagnanam on Tuesday, the attorney agreed not to press the case and remove the statement in place. That allowed him to withdraw the PIL, the bank dismissed as withdrawn.
