WASHINGTON President Barack Obama used a ceremony on Independence Day in which immigrants serving in the U.S. military became citizens on Wednesday to renew its election year, call for new immigration laws popular with a large part of his political base.
Wearing a red ribbon to celebrate July 4th at the White House, Obama spoke to about two dozen foreign-born military personnel who were taking advantage of a program that offered citizenship in exchange for their service.
Obama, who is running for reelection in November, took the opportunity to talk about your recent order lifting the threat of deportation of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to America as children.
The movement appealed to Hispanic voters, an important voting bloc that could tip the election to Democratic incumbent in states like Nevada and Colorado.

"You put the uniform of a country still not fully their own in time of war, some of you deployed in danger you show the values we celebrate every Fourth of July - .. Duty, responsibility, and patriotism," Obama said.
Immigrants should come to the United States legally to enlist in the army.
The immigration issue has become a flashpoint in the battle of Obama with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to win the White House on 06 November.
Romney, former governor of Massachusetts, has advocated a self-deportation of illegal immigrants, a proposal that has not gone well with Hispanics.
