BEIJING: A Chinese court sentenced on Friday Zhang Jingli, former deputy director of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) to 17 years in prison for taking bribes and living a life "indecent."
The government took the opportunity to know the details of its anti-corruption program that shows how the campaign is being used for the image to dress before the leadership changes this year. He said that 600,000 government employees were punished for corruption since 17 National Congress of Communist Party of China in 2007.
This is the second major case against the drug control agency and its former head, Zheng Xiaoyu, was executed in 2007 for taking bribes to approve medicines defective. But that does not set the trend in the organization, which commands massive influence in the food industry and medicine.
The case against Zhang, former deputy head may have been caused due to severe infighting within the SFDA. Prosecutors said Zhang had forced his subordinates to send 1,300 letters to "false accusations" against his head to the central authorities. The police also found videos showing "hot scenes" involving Zhang during a raid in 2010 in a Beijing nightclub called "Heaven on Earth", "state media quoted officials as saying.
