Kokrajhar: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday announced a Rs 300 crore special central assistance for relief and rehabilitation of people affected and displaced in the four affected districts of Bodoland riots after visiting two refugee camps near Kokrajhar.
The prime minister said he also ordered an investigation triggered ethnic clashes and communal. "We must also address the causes of conflict. If the conflict has been instigated, the guilty must be punished. I will order an investigation and the Centre will work closely with the State" he said.
The Prime Minister visited two refugee camps around the city - a Muslim Kokrajhar housing and other prisoners who have Bodo. "I am very sad," he said after visiting the refugee camp in the Bhotgaon. He added: "It will take several days to restore full normalcy. This conflict Desh ke ISS mathematical kalangk pair (a spot in the nation)."
The situation in the four most affected districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon and Dhubri remained calm for a third day on Saturday, but the tension was so high after eight more bodies were recovered. The death toll now at 53 in the violence that erupted on July 20. The number of inmates in the 270 relief camps have also increased to four thousand rupees on Saturday. The aid package includes Rs 100 crore for relief and rehabilitation efforts, another Rs 100 crore as assistance for the development of special plan in the affected areas and Rs 100 crore more under Indira Awas Yojana.
