Mauritius offers India 2 islands, instead of tax treaties

NEW DELHI: How far will a country will achieve a favorable deal for himself? Pretty far, it seems. Mauritius has offered a couple of sun-drenched islands to India as part of a free trade agreement and investment. While the offer has been talked about for some time, Mauritius has revived - at a time that is very fond persevere in the treaty of 1983 to avoid double taxation with India.

Mauritius Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Arvin Boolell said that it was for India to use the islands to your advantage. He said the "Blue Economy" had great potential. India could use North and South Agalega Islands (located 1,100 km north of Mauritius, and has a total area of 70 square kilometers officer) for the creation of hotels and resorts, commercial, marine studies, or construction of a strategic presence in the Indian Ocean, officials told TOI. Agalega North Island also has an airstrip.

In November 2006, TOI had first reported on preliminary discussions between the two countries for the transfer of Agalega Islands - which is closer to India than the African country for development-such as tourism and trade center .
