NEW DELHI: About 50 supporters of the team of Anna, including six women, took by surprise the security personnel, as it turned suddenly to protest against the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, 7 Race Course Road , on Saturday. All have been arrested, police said.
"We have arrested 40 men and six women. The incident took place around 18:00," a police official.
Holding placards and banners against the government and Prime Minister and shouting slogans, the crowd protested against the coal block allocation during the period, Manmohan Singh, head of the ministry of coal. They also demanded a strong Lokpal bill in January.
Protesters took police by surprise suddenly appears in the high security zone. They created an uproar, as it dropped leaflets in the air, while some of them went to the door outside and inside the shed pieces of coal, but were quickly removed by security personnel.
Some of them were in the middle of the road and blocked traffic for several minutes while the police dragged the police vehicles out.
"We have some reports that some fans have gone to 7 RCR to protest participation, Manmohan Singh, in the allocation of coal block," said a member of Team Anna IANS.
Team Anna has argued that the prime minister was directly responsible of giving carbon blocks unknown companies at bargain prices between 2006 and 2009, when he headed the Ministry of Coal.
According to our reports, protesters carried with them coals, but have not received reports of stone throwing, "said the member.
