NEW DELHI: Amid the clamor for a greater role for Rahul Gandhi, Interior Minister P Chidambaram has said that the young leader will do "very well" in the government and Congress.
"Why not? Gandhi can accept a position in government or the party or in the House. I am sure you will do very well in any of these places," said Chidambaram, 'Jaihind TV' Malayalam news channel.
Asked about his reaction to the demand of several Members of Congress Rahul became the leader of the House in the Lok Sabha.
Chidambaram, however, said that if Rahul would be appointed to this or that position is a decision that only the president of Congress, in consultation with the Prime Minister can take.
"But I think I would welcome any position," Chidambaram said, according to a statement released by the news channel.
Kerala PCC president Ramesh Chennithal had yesterday demanded that Rahul be vice president of the party.The chorus of Rahul play a greater role in the Congress Party is getting stronger with party general secretary Digvijay Singh demanding that he be given "decisive" the responsibility and the other senior leader to make a strong pitch for the projection him as PM candidate in the upcoming elections.
