Incident of Mayawati statue

Lucknow: A local court on Saturday sent the main accused in vandalism of the statue of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in 14 days judicial custody.

Amit Jaani, the main accused and the head of the little-known outfit UP Nirman Sena navigation, and his aides Rajendra Singh Chaudhary and Chaudhary alias Qasim Ferrari were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajensh Upadhyaya, who were in judicial custody to 09 August.


The WJC also rejected the bail application of Qasim, President UPNNS state.

The trio, who fled after the incident on Thursday, were arrested by police and Special Task Force last night.

Although Amit and Ferrari, were arrested from Delhi-UP border, Qasim was arrested in Gomti Nagar area, IG (Lucknow) Asutosh Pandey said.This brings the total number of arrests in the incident rose to six.



Three people, organizers of a conference of Seine Alok Srivastava, his son Arpit Srivastava and an executive of a public relations agency Vishal Mishra - were arrested by police on Thursday itself, the day the incident occurred.

A marble statue of Mayawati was vandalized Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan in Stahl in Gomti Nagar area, causing tension and protests by BSP activists across the state. BSP claimed that it was the work of ruling Samajwadi Party workers.

Akhilesh Yadav Chief Minister condemned the incident and said it was a planned conspiracy to vitiate the atmosphere in the state.

The local administration, in a policy of Akhilesh, had gotten the damaged statue replaced by a new one.
