Pranab Mukherjee's nomination be rejected:Sangma

NEW DELHI \ Calcutta: The PA Sangma camp came a surprise in the UPA, alleging that the documents of the ruling coalition's presidential candidate, Pranab Mukherjee, to be rejected and who remains chairman of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).

After initially being taken by surprise, the government refuted the claim of parliamentary affairs Pawan Bansal Minister said the charge was "factually incorrect and legally unthinkable and untenable." After the camp Sangma raised the issue, the ISI director Bimal Roy, Mukherjee said, had left on June 20. The objection to the appointment of Mukherjee was raised by counsel Sangma former BJP MP Satyapal Jain when the papers were targeted Monday. Jain said that the continuation of former finance minister as chairman of the ISI was his holding an office of profit.

UPA managers were confident that the ambush would not derail the nomination of their candidate Mukherjee and continues with the registration of a major victory in the presidential elections to be held on July 19. They feel they will be able to convince the Returning Officer that there is no substance to the accusations of the opposition on Mukherjee holding an office of profit. It was claimed later that the "confusion" was caused by the ISI continues to display the name of Mukherjee as "president" on his website, prompting Sangma, to raise the issue.
