New Delhi, July 03: The Supreme Court Tuesday rejected a petition seeking initiation of proceedings against Telugu Desam Party Supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu to withdraw his promise of a separate Telangana state.
An apex court bench of Justice SS Nijjar and Justice Ranjana Desai Prakash dismissed the petition advocates Janardhan Goud Hyderabad and Krishan Sunkari Gulagari who challenged the Andhra Pradesh High Court order against Naidu annulment proceedings before a magistrate metropolitan.
The high court overturned the February 13 proceedings before the Metropolitan Magistrate, who Jan. 9 issued summons to Chandrababu Naidu.
The magistrate took cognizance of the complaint filed by two defenders under the penal provisions for fraud.
The lawyers in their complaint alleged that during the 2009 elections Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections the TDP announced its support for the demand to build a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.
The petition said the TDP made a U-turn and began an agitation to oppose the division of Andhra Pradesh after the Union Home Secretary, P. Chidambaram, December 9, 2009, said the process of formation of Telangana began shortly after the state assembly passed a corresponding resolution.
