SRINAGAR: The Jammu Jamaat-e-Islami and Kashmir has called on tourists visiting the Valley to desist from scantily clad and warned of an angry reaction if not. "Some tourists, mostly foreigners, are wandering in short skirts and dresses of other nasty openly that it is against the ethics and local culture.
"This is not acceptable to the civil society at all," said Jamaat, a politico-religious, in a statement here yesterday.
The Kashmir valley is witnessing an increase in tourist arrivals over the past two years.
Nearly 15 lakh tourists came here last year and over five lakh tourists visited the Valley this year so far.
Jamaat said the state tourism department to "impress tourists to the ethics of local honor."
It is the duty of department officials to impress visitors to the ethics of local honor in his absence, which may even require a strong reaction," he said.
The Jamaat said the guests were "supposed to respect the feelings of hosts." He said that "simple monetary benefits, no nation can compromise your morals and customs binding and therefore jeopardize their future generation."
"We need those guests who can not become a cause of breaking up the company on the right track and spread immorality and immodesty in the name of tourism," said the Jamaat.
